Dell (Non-OEM) Precision M6300 Bay Module for 2nd Sata Hard Drive

"eBay is our best friend... eBay is our best friend..."
repeat it 1000 times so that you remember to look for ANYTHING you ever need that you cannot find elsewhere. eBay has it! haha...

When I purchased a new Dell Precision M6300 I could have sworn it offered a dual HD capability. When i received it I was disappointed to see that it would not allow for the second drive so I went on a daily search for options that would allow me to transport all my data internally. That's when I found out about the modular bays that Dell has designed for Inspiron and latitude models. I thought, "there has got to be SOMETHING available for their [flagship] M6300 model", but there was nothing. I called Dell, searched their parts database, called again... "Nope, we don't make that part...".

Bless the Chinese and their ingenuity, I hopped on eBay and you would not believe it, the part existed, but only on the other side of the world! A specially made module that will fit the M6300 and other Dell models was quickly ordered and fitted to my new notebook, which now can use the DVD module or the HD Sata module.

I still can't believe it. lol

The fit is a little bit loose around the edges. Once the drives snaps into the module slot and you lock the module with the screw lock, it won't go anywhere.

There is a peculiar shape to the Optical Drive Module that looks similar but varies from one Dell model to the other. It can be tricky finding the one you need because of the orientation of the drive. Here you can see the "notch" on the Optical

It seems that the HD module can have some connectivity issues from time to time as the BIOS reports a problem seeing the module. Sometimes it seems that pushing the module a bit can get the laptop to boot and again see the module.
